YT2 Tractor Oil Change
Yanmar YT2 Series Tractors
Yanmar YT2 Series tractors are incredibly versatile, providing the power you need for your toughest tasks in a machine that’s easily manageable. The fuel-efficient diesel engine provides up to 35 horsepower, while the front-end loader offers a lift capacity of 1,300 lbs at the pivot pin.
Beyond the YT2 Series’ impressive measurables, these tractors benefit from Yanmar’s advanced, innovative technologies. This includes twin, side-by-side control pedals, a hydrostatic transmission, and electro-hydro independent PTO. When combined, all of these elements add up to the unbeatable performance Yanmar owners know and love.
YT2 Series: How to Change the Engine Oil
Changing the engine oil on your Yanmar YT2 Series tractor is essential maintenance that can be completed fairly easily. Read on as we walk you through the steps and materials you’ll need to get the job done.
How Often Should I Change the Oil?
It’s important to change your tractor’s oil after the first 50 operating hours. Then, the oil should be changed again at 200 hours and every 200 hours afterwards. Your engine oil may need to be changed more often if you operate under the following conditions:
- Extremely dusty environments
- Frequent slow operation
- Frequent short trips
What Tools Are Required to Change My Engine Oil?
You can change the oil on your YT2 Series tractor with a few simple tools and a Yanmar Maintenance Kit. Here’s what you’ll need that’s not included in the kit:
- Waste oil drain pan
- Funnel
- Filter wrench
- Shop rags
- Ratchet with a 15mm socket
Of course, always ensure you are using the proper safety equipment including gloves, glasses, and wheel chocks.
Preparing Your Tractor
There are a few things you need to do with your tractor before you change the oil. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth process:
- Park the tractor on a solid, level surface and run the engine to warm up the oil.
- Move all of the levers to the neutral position.
- Make sure the PTO switch is in the off position.
- Lower any implements or attachments to the ground.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Turn off the engine.
- Chock all four tires.
With these preparations in place, all you need to do is let the engine cool for a few minutes and you can get started changing the oil.
Completing Your Tractor Oil Change
Fortunately, all the components needed for an oil change on YT2 Series tractors are easily accessible. Here are the steps to follow to complete this regular maintenance:
- Open the hood and remove the oil filler cap to help oil drain more efficiently.
- Locate the engine oil drain plug under the tractor, placing your drain pan underneath.
- Using the ratchet and socket, remove the drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely into the pan.
- Find the oil filter on the front-right side of the tractor. With your filter wrench, carefully unscrew the filter and remove it. Wipe away any excess oil on the filter base.
- Take the new oil filter from your maintenance kit and screw it on to the filter base. Then, tighten it an additional half-turn with your filter wrench.
- Back underneath the tractor, move the oil pan out of the way and reinstall the drain plug with your ratchet and socket.
- Insert the funnel where the oil filler cap was and pour five quarts of fresh oil into your tractor. Reattach the oil filler cap.
- Briefly run the engine and check for any oil leaks. Once clear, turn off the engine and check the engine oil dipstick.
- If the oil level is correct on the dipstick, close the hood and you’re ready to get back to work.
With those simple steps, your tractor will be ready for the next 200 hours of operation. For an in-depth walkthrough of this process, watch the full video above.
