SA Series Tractor Daily Maintenance
Yanmar tractors have a hard-earned reputation for reliability, and we back it up with an industry-leading, 10-year powertrain warranty. To make sure your machine is running at its peak capabilities, it’s important to perform regular daily maintenance. In this guide, we cover all of the essentials you need to know.
Daily Maintenance for Your SA Series Tractor
These are the checks you should be performing on your SA Series tractor prior to operation. For more detailed information, always consult your owner’s manual.
Check the Engine Oil
The first maintenance check of the group is engine oil. To access the oil dipstick, first pop the hood. There’s a small latch at the front that will allow you to open it. Then, locate the yellow thumb knob to find the dipstick. Grab a clean rag and tidy up around the area to ensure no debris contaminates your engine oil. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it with your rag, removing any old oil. Reinsert the dipstick, ensuring it’s seated all the way inside the tube. Remove it again and confirm that the engine oil level is between the high and low lines. If above the high line, drain some oil from the engine, while if below the minimum line, add additional oil to the machine.

Transmission Hydraulic Oil Check
To check your SA Series tractor’s transmission hydraulic oil, move to the back of the machine. There is a sight glass next to the PTO shaft that shows the levels. What you want to look for is the hydraulic oil to be halfway up this sight glass. Above this level, the oil should be drained slightly, while below this level you should top off the hydraulic oil.

Tractor Coolant System
The coolant system involves a couple different checks. Start by going back under the hood and locating the coolant reservoir. There will be a low mark and a full mark on the reservoir. The level should be kept at the full mark. Add or drain coolant as necessary.
Next, we move on to the radiator screen. This part helps keep dirt and debris off of the radiator and also aids in keeping the tractor cool. You should be easily able to slide the screen out of the top of the brackets that hold it. If there is a buildup of material on the screen, gently wipe it clean, using water and compressed air if needed. Also do a visual check for holes or tears. If any are present, you’ll want to replace the screen. When clean, slide it back into place.
For this step, you want to inspect the radiator itself. Again, ensure this area has not been clogged with dirt or debris. If it is, blow water or compressed air through the back of the radiator to the front. While doing this inspection, also confirm that there are no leaks.
Finally, you’ll move on to the radiator hose check for both the upper and lower hoses. Give them a once over to confirm there are no leaks, while also making sure the upper and lower clamps that hold the hoses in place are secure and tight.
Check the Battery
The battery is located in front of the radiator. Check the battery clamps to ensure they’re secure, and also look for any signs of corrosion. Also inspect the battery cables for cracks or breaks. Lastly, confirm the battery tie downs are tight so the battery does not move while operating your SA Series tractor.
Tractor Walk Around
The final daily maintenance check is to do a walk around of the tractor. Things to look for include loose fittings and leaks. Check both sides of the tractor, as well as underneath. If no issues are detected, you’re ready to get to work.
